White Buffalo Woman
Original artist Michelle Mastel.
She
has a hand painted head and limbs with a cloth armatured body, dark
brown glass eyes and human hair wig. Her clothing is made of wedding
suede, a dress with leggings and moccasins. Her cape is made of sheared
lamb skin and Tibetan lamb. The cape has a geometric painting on the
back which is a female design. She has earrings of antique hair pipe
beads and shells.
White Buffalo Woman, according to native lore, was originally a white
buffalo calf, very rare. She brought a beautiful pipe, with a circle
of white feathers and beads and presented it to the Dakota people.
The people believe that when the pipe is smoked before speaking one
cannot lie.
